Anyone Else Go/Going To Waddington Air Show
« on: 04 July 2010, 07:55:16 »

Took swmbo and my two gorgeous babies to Waddington yesterday and had a fantastic day out.

The weather was spot on (although I feel a bit sore around my face this morning tbh), my kids were so well behaved (2 and 3 years old), and it was a genuinely brilliant air display.

We arrived a little bit late, mostly due to the traffic to get in, but saw the Russian Red Devils first who were pretty impessive, then there was a display from ex red devils pilots in prop planes who called themselves Blades.. Loads of other flights went past inc the Vulcan Bomber which was SO LOUD, my favourite, the Eurofighter did one hell of a dispaly, and the cream on the cake, The Red Devils did an amazing display even though they were missing a Devil. To see them flying straight towards you, red, white and blue smoke poreing from behind them then they criss cross in front of each other and shoot off, thats impressive.

The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight had the Lancaster and Spitfires flying and there was quite a few helicopters (Apache type thing and a Chinook whose sound was just intoxicating).

And as I was leaving on the classic Route Master shuttle bus there was a Spitfire doing a formation with a Euro Fighter.

Just two small grumbles, £42 for two adults to get in was already a bit steep but the cost of food and fairground rides was taking the pi............er biscuit. £3 for an ice cream cone and £2 EACH for your kids to go on a crappy ride. Why cant someone design a day out where you come away thinking 'that was reasonably priced'.

But well worth a visit even though its last day is today!

I'd be a cheeky promise we're going to an airshow and stand outside the fence save myself the money then when the kids say we haven't been on any rides take them to some roundabout and drive round really fast ten times and charge em a quid each for the privalige. So if you see a blue 2.0 mig going round a roundabout at 50 may be side ways who knows just give us a wave if you see me I'm not lost just entertaining the kids for a fraction of the price ;D ;D
ps no I'm not going to the airshow ;D

Glad you enjoyed it Wayne.

I managed to see/hear most of it from my living room as I live next to the Cathedral - with the Airshow FM being a bonus too  :y

Looks like I saved a few ££££ also

I have been a few years ago. Boarded a USA plane, amazing to see the crew quarters & cabin. Also great to hear the aircraft overhead coming before you see them. :y

I went a few years back - SWMBO got me tickets. Great airshow, they didn't manage to get the Vulcan off the ground unfortunately and it threw it down with rain, but it didn't matter and the red arrows still got their display in before the heavens opened.

But...Macclesfield to Waddington was without doubt the most boring mundane drive of my life, I thought I was gonna have to call the Samaritans after about an hour! Thats time I'll never get back  ;D

We were there Saturday, myself, my 69yr old Uncle and my 3 yr old son

Had a great day, Vulcan was fab as always and the rest of the show was impressive too....

Regarding prices, we paid the standard advance price per ticket of £18, which I felt represented quite good value, considering people are happy to pay £30+ to watch a 90 mins football match.....at least an airshow provides a full days experience....

Regarding the ice creams, we went to a Walls Ice Cream van and paid £1.50 each for a lovely Calippo and they did my little lad a small cone for £1, sorry but thats not bad at all....

Regarding the £2 fair rides, well, you should go to the Nottingham Goose Fair mate, some rides are £3+ there and many rides are £1.50 for the kids so £2 at an airshow is in my opinion, very reasonable.

We went from Nottingham and got into a 5 mins queue going in, and left after the Vulcan with no traffic at all.

Fab day and will be back next year...........!!

I was 'working' there for the weekend and must admit that it was a very good show but the prices are a bit on the steep side to say the least.Thankfully 'working' there meant I didn't have to pay to get in and the RAF provided the catering for me for the weekend  :y
