Vx Parts ... or lack of
« on: 16 September 2010, 19:31:49 »

After my recent problem with my gearbox oil cooler pipes and finding out that Vx part and alternative part isn't available , arn't VX ment to support cars for some time in the future ?
I find it hard to beleive that some of these cars can only be 6-7 years old but you cant get parts for them ?
I even checked GM America and seen the part but it's not available .

As said mine is now fixed but what would i have done if i hadnt of sourced second hand ones .... I would have prefered to fit new parts but glad its fixed anyway .

Could my car have been sitting useless for the sake of two little metal pipes  :-/ :-/

IIRC then they are only obliged to provide parts for 10 years. Am not sure when that time is measured from though.

I have heard from a person who works on the spare counter at Vauxhall that parts for the Omega are getting harder to find. Nigh on impossible now for the Senator.

Thats quite worrying for a car that could only be 6 years old ... 2004 was the last of these wasn't it ?

Interesting post ... but runs contrary to my experience.. :(

My local dealers ...Skurrays, Swindon, have always been very helpful, and knowledgeable. They have never fobbed me off with "not available", but have sometimes said 4-5 days. This seems to agree with Andy C who has had to get bits for me from Germany.

As I understand the system, dealers don't keep stuff on the shelf,  if it does not move .. it gets returned to VX .. but there is no VX warehouse in UK, everything is stored somewhere in Germany. The cost of returning parts to store is met by the dealer .. therefore they don't order stuff they don't expect to sell.

VX, for reasons known only to them, sell to dealers in different "batch sizes" than you and I want .. so if you want 2 items .. the dealer might have to order a box of 5. This means 3 items left on a shelf they might not sell, or might have to pay VX to take back.

For these reasons, I believe, SOME dealers will not order the parts from Germany .. and use the "no longer stocked" excuse. If you find this .. simply tell the dealer you are stopping using them and going elsewhere,... then either find a better dealer or use Andy C ...

Just my views and understanding ... nowt else .. :)

I have actually experience that before as well ... i needed one breather hose and was told i had to buy the pair beacuse when they order it they come in a pack of two .
I didnt mind because now i have a spare  :y
I was just a bit alarmed and panicy when i was told the part i needed this week is no longer available and the alternative part isnt availabe either as i need her this weekend  :-[.
Still a bit suprised that they stop supporting parts after 6-7 years  :-/

Yes your probly right .... holiday plans would have been spoilt by the 7 day wait though but its comforting to know they are still available though  :y
