Having read the rest of the recent posts in this thread it has been a reminder of why I try to avoid posting in threads which you and your sidekick are involved in.

Albs.....If your daughter has chosen to go into banking then that is entirely her prerogative......but your rather bitter posts seem to suggest that BJ and I should not be allowed  to voice a negative opinion on a small group of greedy inept bankers who......in my humble opinion.....and the opinion of many others have left this country on it's knees....Try not to take things so personally.....  

I have never before seen the words "small group" used on these boards when bile is being launched at the banking sector. Yes, as in all societal groups, there are a few inept and dishonest individuals, but the anti-capitalists on here seem to enjoy tarring everyone with the same brush.  Furthermore, the problem the UK faces at the moment is excessive debt, which was cause by an inept and greedy socialist administration. 

Hmmm yes Nick ......you seem to have fallen into the same trap as Albs......that is ....if you don't believe in totally unregulated free market capitalism( which I don't)...then you are some sort of rabid commie/marxist...who hates business and enterprise...a man who has no aspirations or imagination...For the record I own a detached house and I'm self employed....We have seen with the banks just how dangerous unfettered capitalism can be....

No one said that anything about no regulation. Remember that, by definition, capitalism means private ownership of the factors of production. What you're talking about it is the open market, whereby goods and services are freely traded. Obviously, there has to be some regulation to keep matters in check, but what Banjax was talking about (e.g Post Office running all current accounts) was, in effect, anti-capitalism. He would want the free market in financial services to be closed down and replaced by a quasi-state-owned one. 

If you are genuinely in favour of private enterprise, I am pleased to hear it!

inept? perhaps in some cases, yes.
greedy? definitely
but socialist? outrageous!!

sorry if I'm being a bit thick here, but don't banks - and we're talking investment banks here, don't they just make money for themselves by creating debt for others?
how is that useful to society? like I said maybe I'm being thick but I can't see the purpose   

oh, and far from being a firebrand commie  - like Opti i'm a self employed home-owner - I am a capitilist - I just think we're led too easily down a path that the banks want us to believe to preserve their profits and fuel the economy. I think it's high time we saw what the banks can do given a little squeeze, welcome their hatred as Opti says
