Pics of the damage (I've replaced the tail light with the cracked one I had before because I've got to nip to Chris' later to pick up a bumper.  Excuse my crap attempt at knocking the worst of it out......

The worst of it is sitiing behind the rear arch, I can't get a hammer or piece of wood in there to be able to stroke it out.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and if you look behind the first pic, you can vaguely see the mess I made of the garage door.  Quite proud of myself though, the door opens and closes following lots of cursing and hammering.  The white post was four foot inside the front of the garage, and the right hand side of the door was pretty much with it.

I never realised how much of a pain it is to hang garage doors - the springs are a nightmare!

Would a suction cup puller not get the worst of the dent out? Got to be worth a try if you haven't already

Yes. Mainly on the front bumper of an Opel Rekord in Johannesburg in 1988.

Many thanks to Chris who sold me the back bumper off of my old Omega on Friday  :y  And another set of thanks to Ronnie McBurger for finding me a spare light unit at the bottom of his shed.

Took the damaged bumper off this afternoon and started to strip it down seeing as the central part of the bumper is just a coloured skin.  The orginal central part is salvageable with a little bit of filler, saves me having to respray a red one black.  Also realised that the very bottom of the bumpers are colour coded.  So have been to Halfrauds and got some filler primer and what i thought was the right colour black spary paint.  However, in true Halfords style there was a different black in the slot on the shelf that I thought was Diamond Black.  Some of the bottom of the bumper is now midnight black  :-/.  Shall be going back down there tomorrow to get the right colour so I can get cracking.

I also bought a set of dollys and body hammers off of Ebay combined with a slide hammer kit for a respectable £30.  So for the next couple of weeks I'll be teaching myself bodywork - if it all goes wrong I'll have to bite the bullet and put it in a bodyshop, but half the fun of learning is making mistakes.

Big thank you to everyone on here that has offered advice and encouragement.  Never had this much support on VXON.

I guess, wrt to bodywork (something that always scares me), is that as you say, if it all goes wrong, send it to bodyshop....

Good luck with it, and we want to see progress piccies :y
