A man has been shot during a police operation in south-east London.
Armed Metropolitan Police officers attended a commercial address in Eltham High Street on Monday morning as a part of a pre-planned armed raid.
The man was shot in the throat when a police firearm was discharged during the operation outside Boots.
He is recovering in hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The man along with four others have been arrested.
Shooting inquiry
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards.
Mike Franklin, from the IPCC said: "We will be examining the reason why the police officer discharged his firearm to consider whether he was justified in doing so."
Witnesses said the shooting happened when an unmarked police vehicle approached a car carrying three men during the raid.
A Met spokesman said: "Police attended a commercial address in Eltham as part of a pre-planned armed operation by officers from the Met's Flying Squad.
"During the operation a police firearm was discharged and a man received a gunshot wound. He has been taken to hospital where his condition is not believed to be life threatening.
"That man, along with four others, has been arrested."
