Managed to find the make of Triton fitted (it was in when she bought the house) and it is the Mimosa which is one of the cheaper units. I will need to try and find out (maybe from Triton) if buying a higher quality unit is going to make this problem signifcantly less. First job today though is try and work out if there is any anomaly in pipe work (i.e. is hot feed going to correct inlet) or whether it is the thermostat cartridge inside the unit which needs replacing - which is a possibility I picked up from googling.

i have a combi boiler, and a mixer shower (fitted 2 months ago with a complete new bathroom), i have no trouble at all with the water pressure or temp

could it be the shared supply causing trouble? obviously a tap being used in our house affects the flow, so we both (swmbo and i) know to leave the water alone when the other is in the shower

Another thing to try is to run a hot tap slowly and see if the boiler can supply a consistent temperature or whether it itself is cycling between hot and cold.

A decent combi will have a modulated burner so it can adjust heat output to demand (within reason) but it's possible it's an old one that doesn't, or it is cycling due to a fault.

Plumber reckons I could buy expensive shower mixer and still have problems.

In circumstances have bought a new shower exactly same as the one installed off ebay for less than buying thermostatic cartridge off Triton - hopefully it is this that has gone. will take a couple of days to get here - in meantime my work with the wrench at least makes it useable with a bit of deft temperature switching when taking a shower.

Thanks for all the advice.

If it still acts up then back to drawing board. One step at a time though.

Problem with plumbers, etc. is that if it's not done "their way" it'll never be right in their eyes whereas there's always more than one way to skin a cat.

Hopefully the replacement will do the job. :y

From the new shower purchased off ebay, the thermostatic cartridge has been removed and used to replace cartridge in old shower - (saved a lot of hassle in getting whole of old shower out of wall panel). Problem of no control of water temperature  has been cured - result. 5 years warranty on new unit.

I've cooperated with one company only.  :-[ It's Gainsborough Showers. They offer a wide range of products with affordable prices (if you are interested in ). And the most important they have Advice center! :)...Triton, Mira, Aqualisa are good too. But I can't say anything else about those companies.  :-?

What are you having for dinner then, spam sandwiches by any chance? ;D ;D

Apologies if it was posted with the best of intentions. It fitted a profile which we generally look out for. New user signs up, and in the first few posts drags up an old thread with clearly identified products in the title and posts a commercial plug without introducing themselves, first, etc.

Clearly that wasn't the case here, as such users normally disappear into the woodwork never to be seen again after a couple of posts. Again, I'm sorry that in this case you've been confused with such an individual but hopefully you can understand how that may have happened?

Welcome to the forum. :y
