Caravan Rallying?
« on: 16 January 2011, 16:12:32 »

....did I dream it? :-?

I vaguely recall seeing pictures of a 60/70`s rally with Mini`s pulling caravans at high speed on 'proper' forest stages.....could it be true? :-/

I seem to recall Caravan racing in the mid to late seventies. It was something of a novelty and didn't really catch on. If memory serves they used the (then new) Rover 3500 SD1.... :y

Yep - your minds not going Debs.  Remember seeing grass track racing with caravans pulled by Capris as well as caravan circuit racing.

Aldershot used to do figure of 8 caravan bangers many years ago. We used to do a once a year "Hare & Hounds" @ Angmering where the track owner Jim used to go out in a Rover/Granada etc with a caravan & 15/20 of us in smaller cars (Shovvits, Festas, little Datsuns etc) had to battle to be the last one on or in the caravan after 8 laps. He would start behind us so we'd be battling eachother to catch him up.
It used to get a little messy!!!! 8-) ;D :D

Ahh, have some pleasant memories of that place as a schoolkid. Used to pester the parents constantly for an evening out there. ;D

Yeah, it's got to be more fun than having a holiday in one. ;D
