I do not need to hear what some foreign journalist states is fact about Cameron, Britain and Europe!

Oh please, Lizzie!  :(

It wasn't "some foreign journalist", it was Cameron himself!!!! You can watch it at the link below...and you can see the link is to ConHome.  ::)

http://playpolitical.typepad.com/uk_conservative/2011/02/watch-david-camerons-25-minute-interview-with-al-jazeera.html

Just as I thought Nick, you have simplified what Cameron actually said from 17.15 into the interview.  Indeed he does support us staying in Europe ( :y :y :y) and a referendum to take us out is not required.  Instead we will remain within and take part in Europe's future, but will NOT devolve any more power to Brussels without referendums to decide if it is right for British interests.  So referendums are still on the agenda!

All this is FULLY in line with Conservative Policy as I published above!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

1) Who says it's not required? Cameron? What about the many who argue that existing powers of the EU are too great and we need to have a referendum on the subject. If Cameron is so sure it is unnecessary why doesn't he hold a referendum and hold up the massive "Yes" vote support his position. Oh, yes, it would probably be a "No" vote.

2)  Since May last year, there have been five new transfers of power to Brussels - creating the European External Action Service, extending the European Arrest Warrant, increasing our EU budget contribution, EU regulation over the City, and EU oversight over British budgets.

On not one of these occasions have ministers admited that power was being transferred.

So what hope is there in a "referendum lock" that can only be triggered if ministers are prepared to admit that what their civil servants have agreed to ceded to the EU is significant?
(2, above, copied directly from Douglas Carswell's blog to save typing!)

 ::) ;)

A long way before being elected he had stated quite clearly that a referendom was not viable due to the Labour Government signing the Lisbon Treaty.  We were legally locked into it, and all he could do is promise to clamp down on the EU powers over the UK, as made clear in Conservative Party Policy as listed in my post above.

Everything will take time, as DC IS human, as is his Cabinet, and cannot perform miracles.  Labour dug us in deep, so extraction to reasonable levels of EU power will not happen any time soon! ;) ;)

Why BJ?  :-? :-?

as NB says:
"The EU shamelessly provides accounts which cannot be audited as they are so dodgy. It causes tonnes of fish to discarded into the seas each year because of its daft quota systems. Yetr, it has just approved a £51million project to create a museum in Brussels to celebrate itself! Meanwhile, MEPs have voted themselves an extra EUR 3000 in secretarial expenses per month to bring their allowance to an eye-watering EUR21,200 per month (£18k).    The fat cats in the EU are milking us dry, yet Cameron thinks we should be denied a vote on whether we like it or not.
"

Its unbelievable, undemocratic and absurd that we cant vote those in power in the EU out - one of the few things DC did say he'd do was allow a referendum...which he later backed out of - i reckon an Egyptian style uprising is on the cards for Brussells if the economy across europe gets much worse  :o

But as I have stated above the Labour Government dug us in deep with the EU.  It will now take time to reverse out of all the unnecesary and restrictive, unfair, and corrupted policy of the EU :'( :'( :'( :'(   But we must be there to change things for a better future 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :y

We can't. As you said, Labour signed up to the Lisbon Treaty and we are governed by that treaty and many other EU statutes. We can't change the EU as we are but a single voice among 27 and we would need if not a unanimous vote, then certainly a majority to change even the smallest thing. If you think the EU can be changed by the UK, then that is, IMHO, cloud-cuckoo land.  ;)

The only option open to us is to leave.  :y

I admire some of you for having the intellect & interest in politics that i sadly? lack. I for one am sick & tired of every newly elected government blaming the previous because they can't clean up the mess that was left...then they go & add to it??? & so it goes over & over again.
We never get anywhere which is why i'm amazed some folk love politics, comment on said interviews etc. It's all a fairy tale. Your interest & concern no matter how well intended is wasted.

They have no interest in you no matter how much interest you have in them. They don't care, live well & we struggle to pay for them to cock up yet again.

If any MOD staff, medical staff, police, fire brigade put in such an abysmal performance they'd be given short thrift as we've no time for them yet over & over again "we" elect yet another a bunch of imbeciles who cost us a fortune & despite all this some folk seem to love politics...

   AMAZING!!!! ::)

Hammer > nail, Amigo.  :y :y

There is a terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tireding gulf between the people and the political classes...and it appears to be getting worse not better.

It is a good excuse for withdrawing from political discusson, but such a course would let them get away with it. One day, they will realise the error of living solely in the Westminster bubble.  ;)
I hope you're right Nick, can't go on like this forever!!! ::)

it's alright promising a referendum before devolving any more power to brussels.
how much more power could be devolved tho?
we can barely wipe our arses without their permission now.

You can thank Gordon Brown and David Milliband for that one, (mainly).

Therein lies the problem Egg - it's about time we 'wised-up' and reinterpreted the practical application of those remaining regulations where the option for us to do so remains.

This is where I get my information on Conservative Policy from:

http://www.conservatives.com/Policy/Where_we_stand/Europe.aspx

I'm just wondering if that was written while they were in opposition Lizzie as the reality of coalition government may dictate a very different policy.

We support the further enlargement of the EU

I think that aspiration simply invites difficulty.
