The bed-wetters often like us to believe that severe weather has only been around since we humans started driving cars and flying in aircraft and that before we started sinning, the weather was benign.

The truth is that there has been some very violent weather in the past. I've just been reading about the Great Storm of 1703.

Between 8,500 and 15,000 were killed and HMS Association was blown from Harwich to Gothenburg in Sweden before way could be made back to England.

Crikey!  :o :o

who on earth has ever said that?  :o

bizarre  ;)

Its all in the mind BJ!  Just a make believe statement to justify scepticism, not based on any truth whatsoever! ::) ::) ::)

All the people I know understand the world, and its weather, has been around a very long time.  But there you go! ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

having said that Liz - it didn't actually rain until 1589.

i think it was a Tuesday.  :)

No BJ! ::) ::)  it was 1588, 10th August, a Wednesday, when the Spanish brought us rain for the first time as the first Great Storm ever known to man was within days to drive their battered Armada North in sea never known before in mans history after Queen Elizabeth I had made her defiant, historic, speech on the 9th, a clear fine day!  The last we were ever to know! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) :y

did the rain from Spain fall mainly on the plain Liz? or was it wetter on higher ground?  ;)

No, it fell everywhere for the first time, and some wise Tudor muttered something about "climate change"!! :o :o :o

He was quickly whisked away, tortured until the foul man confessed to bringing in this rain, and then taken away to be burned at the stake 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

May the good Lord save us from heretics such as this fiend!

eh Albs? :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

We are joking as never again am I going to seriously comment on an "environmental" thread, and anyway this is more of a thread about history.

With all other subjects Albs we can joke about the subject matter, but on THIS subject we cannot!  Ask yourself why?

Everyone taking a subject they cannot control far too seriously perhaps?

Anyway, if you think my joking is inappropraite then I will not say another word on this thread in the interests of the Forum 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :D :D :D :y :y :y
