Suppose it's one way of trying to generate flagging sales perhaps, if they really do have the problem and get the name in the papers.

Personally I can't ever see 'battery powered alone' cars ever taking off for every time of driving, especially long distance.  Who want's to stop over over night on a 200 mile journey as the car needs charging.  True battery cars around town make some sense, except you can't hear them so I would expect more pedestrians getting run over for this reason, too busy on their battery operated phones to hear the battery operated car  ::) .

the Tesla is branded as a sportcar designed to be driven enthusiatically, so if you drive it hard and it returns 55miles, thats something I'd find useful knowledge, they may well have been taking the piss and over egging the uselessness of the vehicle, but i reckon once the 3 people on the planet who think a £100000 C5 is a good idea have bought one....what next?  :y

If forums had been around when steam trains, planes and cars were first invented then exactly the same sort of comments would have been made then.

It will never take off
Have to have a man with a red flag walk in front
people will die from the speed

All it needs is some imagination. e.g. ranks of government owned cars on charge that you can use. Bit like the city centre cycle hire/use (free for first hour) in some European cities. Battery life will be much extended and a lot cheaper in the future. Most commuting journeys people do are at a nose to tail crawl anyway.
