Oil and gas - not much left. Water - plenty in the lake district.
Leccy - we buy it all in fro mFrance these days. We actually paid Scottish power not to pruduce any leccy recently, so they didnt  exceed their carbon limit and then bought in nuclear power from France, for Scotland.
We can all jest or argue about the rights and wrongs  etc. but it is an inarguable fact that anywhere in the UK which is much more than 50 miles outside London, runs at a financial loss, and is subsidised by the greater London area. ;)

i really don't know where you get your figures from Albs, you've spouted that tripe on a number of occasions and never once backed it up, as far as I can gather our GDP per capita is higher than in England, so we're more efficient at creating wealth despite decades of decimation of manufacturing, the more you protest, the more i think you're scared - i know you're a unionist...but this is more than that - dont worry Albs, we'll share whats left of the oil and gas and we'll continue to pump clean water to you  ;)

oh, and Mr Cameron - if you could please keep banging the drum for the union - everyone up here loves you and the message is really driving home - stay on that  ;D

Wrong again. Scotland's GDP is behind that of the UK.

So, if its lower than the UK average, it will be miles behind England, as Wales and N.I I would imagine are lower than Scotland (due to North sea activities) ?
Keep trying Banjax. The law of averages says you will be right about something someday. :y ;D ;D ;D

I think that without Scotland, there can be no UK. The United Kingdom of England, Wales and Northern Ireland just dosn't sound right!  :-/

If there is any sort of referendum, it should apply to all 4 countries and should be a simple question. Do we stay together or split?  :o

I think that an independant England (outside of the EU) might fair quite nicely... 8-)

Latest figures (relevent to the above);

 http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Economy/GDP/Findings

Summation and anticipated outlook - from a Scottish Government report;

Scottish quarterly GDP growth is likely to remain volatile for the foreseeable future. This is normal during the recovery stage following a recession and is likely to be amplified by temporary factors such as the severe weather.

Overall the latest independent forecasts predict that the recovery in Scotland will continue this year with GDP growth close to 2%. However output will remain below pre-recession levels until well into 2012.

Finally, the recent improvement in the Scottish labour market suggests quite a different (positive) adjustment path for employment relative to the pattern of previous recessions (1980’s and 1990’s). It will be important to consider further the composition and sectoral pattern of this upturn, the extent to which it may be temporary or part of a more sustained upward trend.
