samsung dvd recorder
« on: 04 June 2011, 21:24:15 »

Evening.. I need some help, a mate has just bought a samsung lcd tv and a samsung dvd player/recorder. I sent the tv up no problems including the virgin box. The problems started with the box plugged in hdmi lead to box then tv(no scart sockets on tv)plugged in ariel and rf lead. 1St issue could only get bbc1/2 & channel 4. could not get itv or 5. ?. Is their a way i can put the tv channels thru the dvd player because this has freeview aswell. 2nd problem was the recorder, i got the instant recorder to work but not the timer.  if anybody has a idea i would appreicate it.
Thanks Paul :(

Can you clarify...

Are you receiving TV via Virgin, or via Freeview?

Try manual scans rather than autoscan.

Hi just a quick update got the timer record to work. I have the manual. But cant see a reason why it wont scan all the channels. Took virgin off so watching tv thru the built in freeview. Still got the same problem on the dvd/recorder i can only store channels 1,2,4. Can anybody tell me how i can record straight of the tv. Cheers Paul.

I would imagine if you set the input of the recorder to the connection, thats connected to the tv (if that makes sense) that should work, however wouldnt it be better to find out why the recorder won't scan the freeview channels?  :-/

I have a tv with built in freeview and a hd recorder that doesnt....but i have a separate freeview box connected to input of the hd recorder......that setup works fine (and like yours really, except freeview of the recorder is external)  :y

The lack of SCART socket means you can't record what the TV sees as there is no means of obtaining an analogue signal to send to the DVD recorder.
You can record from the V+ box, but you'll have to drop that back to analogue output rather than HDMI in order to achieve this.
