engine oil td

a mate of mine has kindly offered to get me some engine oil 10ltrs castrol 5/40 (semi-synthetic) will this be ok for my tractor?  :)

castrol oil is shite, it tends to mayo very easily. 5/40 is also a tad thin. I'd use GM 10/40

5/40 will just not thicken so much at lower temperatures so nothing wrong with the grade of oil. It is hard to beat the GM 10/40 on price though.

Same here, I'd stick with GM 10/40 semi.

Considering your car is TD I would personally rather go for 5W40 oil, it is far better for the turbo.
Don't know exactly for Vauxhall but on VW, Audi diesels synth oil is a must have

Seeing as you want to be changing the oil in that BMW lump at least every 2.5-3k miles, go for the cheapest that matches the spec.  My tractor lived on GM Semi at around £8 for 5l on TC.  Takes about 1.3 cans from memory


Castrol, well, yeah, I wouldn't even subject the lawnmower to that...
