I have at least 2 studs snapped and was hoping Darth Loo Knee would look at it at the camberley meet, but unfortunately it was cancelled. It's not something i could do myself but i wanted to get a rough time so i know how much to expect to be charged if i went to a local garage

My economy had badly dropped off, which coincided with a start up rattle which was dealt with by lifter treatment and replacing the manifold gasket and all the studs-3 were broken and the leak affected economy by 6-7mpg.

I am having a love/hate relationship with the Omega-fix one thing, add two to the list.  After 85+ jobs, still got squeaking pad, warped new disc, underbody minor rattle and minor speedo area rattle to go-but working on the assumption each one of these will breed 2 more jobs each  :(

I got the studs done today (10 bought from VX for £8 all in) and was heartbroken that the quote was £30-60 but I was charged £164 as it took 5 hours to remove three inset broken studs and re-thread two holes, plus sort two broken heatshield studs.  Heartbroken.

welung666 had very kindly offered to do this for me, but he has helped me over the last three weekends, I need to look after my son while my wife works at weekends and the garage was opposite my office....

Anyway, on the bright side, the car is silent on start up and tickover, smooth, quick and gives better economy now.
It's a hell of an improvement, but a hell of an invoice.

Still reeling.  Bloody car will bankrupt me.

Your car is a bit like Trigger's broom ;D ;D

That's unnervingly close to reality.  I think the glass is still the original, though  :-/

Yeah, Martyn-what got me was the £30-60 "we've got the proper tools to make it straightforward" etc etc and then the surprise of £164 without any warning  :o :o

In hindsight, it has made the car much better and given me more confidence in it.  Few jobs left now to finish...... :-?

They should really have told you it was going to cost more, saying 30-60 is almost a verbal contract. OK, its easy to be wise after the event, but .......

So what's next then G?

Most would just leave it alone now as it is in startling order for a 9 year old/100k Omega, but I have just got to get it RIGHT....so left to do:

Very slight, occasional brake judder NSF (new non-VX) disc
Occasional brake sqeal NSF disc/pad as above
Has been 4 wheel tracked, balanced, tyres moved around, pressures etc done but still tramlines very slightly and pulls slowly left if steering let go on flat non-camber surface-assume radial pull on cheap Federal tyres-if so leaving as is
Minor rattle from rear end on patchy roads-need to remove baby seat/tools etc first as may be the cause
Minor rattle around base of speedo
Drivers window frame squeaks when opened
Adjusted all door catches, but wind noise increased-needs tuning
Tow bar needs cleaning underneath and touching in
May go back to VX re: software updates-bogs down occasionally as now not changing down like before

This is all being pedantic as car looks and drives as new, but these final tweaks will return it to "as new" mechanical order.

My last 6 cars were brand new-this has been a re-education..... :y
