Elite gearbox changed - A very big thanks
« on: 19 June 2007, 21:23:48 »

On Friday, my gearbox fell to bits, leaving me without wheels.

I'd like to thank the following:

Laidback / Dave: For chasing around looking for a gearbox for me, and generally being really kind and helpful.

RonaldMcBurger / Fin, for sourcing me a perfect condition gearbox, at an extremely good price.

TheBoy / Jaime - for his hospitality in inviting me over to his place to do the gearbox change, and feeding me with stella. And Mrs TB, for putting me up for 2 nights, and cooking a really nice meal, and even waking me up with a cuppa  :)

Tunnie - for assisting me in lugging my new gearbox on! Conditions were not the best, I had rain running down my neck and everywhere.. but Between the two of us, we had the job covered in no more than 4 hours, taking off a break for when it rained. The transmission and drive is now perfect.

Over the two days, we made 2 dead cars mobile. It was a real teamwork effort, by all of us, with great results.

It was all hard work - but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  :y

Cheers Guys

Maybe so... but it is still a HUGE help having someone else to help you support the box, raise the jacks.. etc. I've done this job on my own 4 times now, and It's much, much easier with 2.

So now you know how it's done.... look out for a project with a gearbox failure  :y

I well and truly locked myself out of my alarmed and deadlocked Omega. So I threw a brick through one of the rear windows, and climbed in ;D

I think Jaime is referring to me breaking my toe though...

Nah your ok its the road, being a redish tarmac it should hide the blood stains!  ;)

Seriously though shat me pants when it fell... had it at a considerable height too.

Was fun dropping the old one though, just let it fall out of the car basically, it got stuck. So i decided to ram it with the jack  ::)

Ever thought of getting a job at Haynes Tunnie now you have done with uni? Think this is a far easier method than Mr Haynes describes  ;D
