Looking for parts, for the HDi Cambelt change. I am considering changing the bottom pulley too, as they fail regularly.

Looking for one on ebay - I came across the above link.

Someone selling information on how to change the crank pulley on a HDi.

His ad states "if you can change the spark plugs, you can change the crank pulley".

HDI being "High pressure, Direct (Diesel) Injection" - when did diesels have spark plugs?

Pretty much shows what the quality of his info will be.....

He didnt say deisels have spark plugs, he says if 'you can change the spark plugs, you can change the crank pulley'. He is just compering it to an easy job. most people dont know what glow plugs are.

Well that makes it a huge can of worms if it relates to a different car than the one referenced in the advert

If we're talking about any car, then changing the spark plugs in something like a V8 Jag, for example, would be a lot harder than changing a spark plug in a 1.3 Ford Escort. Which one do you compare against?

So - if you can perform the simple job of screwing a plug in and out - you are automatically capable of being able to remove an aux belt, lock an engine, undo a crank bolt - and then refit it all...

I would't let the ad bother you

Trust me - it doesn't. 

When I do the job, I will post up my own pics/guide/experience on the Pug forum

I'll take the V8 Jag over a V12 XJS any day

If this is the pulley I am thinking about, the main reason for the failure in the first place is the over-tensioning of the belt in the first place putting additional stress on the damper bush...

Just got the image of someone barey capable of changing sparkplugs doing one of these...  Never seen sparkplugs come flying out through the bonnet, if they're not fitted correctly, but I am bloody certain an incorrectly fitted crank pulley would!!! lol....
