My low-blow turbo diseasal Astra is showing the EML. Turn the ign on, EML comes on, then it goes out as it should. Before the glowplug light has gone off, the EML is back on again but goes out by the time you've got to the end of the road.
Just had my 'Cheapo Tech II' on which showed P1635 which I believe is Glow plug timer circuit fault
So .....  my question is, what does this actually mean? Is it the glowplugs themselves fubar'd or the box of electrickery clipped to the battery tray or something else. The car drives as good/bad as it normally does.

According to autodata disc p1635 =glow plug control module-control signal malfunction. wiring short to positive/earth,open circuit or glow plug module.  Try checking the connectors for crap etc

Thanks. I'll look in the morning. It's something that it's only started doing these past few days, & I've only just got the code.

Measure the glow plug resitances (you need to disconnect them to do this) and then check the state of the relay (which is only about 30 quid ish)

I guess I'm looking for one that's different from the rest. Any recommendations on what to buy or not to buy if it is a glow plug gone t1ts up?

Trade club wont go far wrong or if going aftermarket, try to get Beru ones.

I've had the multimeter out and .......

No 1 .... 60.8 Ohms
No 2 .......0.7 Ohms
No 3 .......0.6 Ohms
No 4 .......0.6 Ohms

So I reckon No 1 glow plug is fubar'd 
Why's the resistance gone up?  :-/

You can tell it's been many a year since I've done electrics. If the resistance kept going up, you'd have a high resistance, isn't an open circuit zero resistance  :-/

Note I said its going...not it is. 

Many of these modern glow plugs are more than just a bit of wire, some are a ceramic and carbon setup....hence as they head to towards an open circuit state, the resistance increases......I suspect that this is because the metal film starts to crack.

To be totally pedantic .... open circuit is infinite resistance (or it would be in a vacuum) ... zero resistance is a full short

New Trade Club glow plug fitted this afternoon, no EML
