This TrafficMaster thing...
« on: 09 June 2010, 13:52:21 »

Does anyone use it? My Elite doesn't have SatNav and I don't intend getting one but the Trafficmaster might come in handy. Strangely the other night it came on even though the licence has expired.

Does anyone know how much the licence is and if the 0990 number is still the right one? Trafficmaster's website is down at the moment - or most of it is anyway.

yep, i use one, thanks to TB

in the highly irritating absence of tmc its the only real onboard traffic system for the omega that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. More up to date than tomtom traffic. Could do with a couple of junctions more range imo.

agree with chrisgixer - if you are frequent motorway user it does a job for about £30 per annum and is good complement to NCDC 2013 Sat Nav where TMC system does not work as they discarded the idea back in early 2000s.

if you have another system with TMC then of limited use but in Omega Elites etc is fine and did me proud for many years.

I now use a vehicle for motorways which has TMC and all sorts of gizmos like one button press to set up bypass of route problems which takes you to a different level but TrafficMaster is good if you do not have such a facility - you have to set up the route by pass manually of course which is easy enough on NCDC 2013

IMHO only good if you do loads of motorway driving (I do....) but find it useful, and has got me out of a few long traffic queues on junctions ahead of me, allowing me to come off at the previous junction and divert route.

Glad I got one (thanks Baron....)

yes should have said, only usefull for motorway driving or major routes, nfg for town work. Traffic master have moved on to Smart nav, i think its called, voice only navigation based on the same or similar traffic info. Very good system, but very very pricey.

Mine works and I wouldn't be without it... But, needs to be used in conjunction with Radio Traffic report and the mark 1 eyeball, closely linked with the Mark 2 knowledge/common sense :y :y

And no... The 0990 number doesn't work any more but IIRCC there is a recorded message with the correct number

But when it was working, were you travelling long distance on major trunk roads? That is, after all, the only thing it's really any good for :y :y

Thanks for all the replies. I don't do a lot of long distance journeys, usually only when going on holiday so don't know if I'll renew it. Does the Elite system use Oracle or Freeway?

Cheers for the link M  :y

Oracle.

And round your way, I wouldn't be surprised if only the A11 was covered....
