Anyone been to the Motor Museum recently? - £17 a head to see 250 cars + other stuff is probably ok but just wondered if there is much in the way of the old Standards, Fords etc from 1940s and 1950s.

Almost went today until footballl,golf and weather changed my mind

I've not been for a few years now but went on a Motoring Event Day so got free entry to the museum. Thoroughly enjoyed it but have a vague recollection of thinking I'd have been disappointed if I'd only come to the museum :-/ :-/

went to beaulieu with SWMBO back in march...we thought it well worth the money...loads of 1940's/50 cars and the top gear/james bond show was great...didnt get to see the house but it is a little overpriced but would deffo go again

Went last Sunday and a good day out it was. Lots to see,even the Top gear display was good. The museum has loads of cars (my son esecially liked Mr Beans car) and motorbikes.
The special ops display was excellent and informative.
Lovely village nearby, sort of takes you back to the forties.

For me, its not worth the money when out of season as there is quite a few of the grounds and extra bits closed.

Much better when there is something on or in the summer months TBH

I went in the summer when there was a military show on. I was disappointed with the motor museum, however. There are many, many more cars in an average classic car show. As someone previous said, it's ok if theres a show on.

I feel it's more of a theme park than a motor museum, so if you're specifically interested in the cars it might disappoint.

Trying to think what might be a better bet. The Haynes museum springs to mind, I guess, but not been there for a good few years.

Ok to be more specific then I would like a trip down memory lane and the cars I would be keen to see again would be for example:

Wolsely 16/60/Morris Oxford
Austin Westminster and Van den Plas
Austin A30/A35 Countryman
Austin A40/A50/A60
MG Magnette

Vauxhall Velox/ Wyvern EIX, Cresta - 1950s versions
Humber Super Snipe, Hawk

Standard Ensign, !0, Vanguard

Ford Pop , Anglia, Prefect, Classic

Consul 360 series

Rover 90, 105 etc,

anything from 1950s to 1960s

Maybe you know the best rally type events?

If you are ever in Wiltshire, there is a private museum in Calne, that has an amazing array of cars and bikes. Not all in concourse condition, although some are, but it really is a "trip down memory lane".

Certainly not in the same league as Beaulieu, but worth a visit if in the area.

Calne itself has little else to offer (unless you like looking for the 6 toed inbreds)

Ever been to the heritage motor centre (I think?) in Gaydon?

Might be worth a look, bearing in mind your interests. Biased more towards BL models rather than Vauxhall but I think you'd find it interesting. Bit more of a trek but it's only a minute off the M40 next time you're passing.

Been to Brooklands lately? Me neither, actually, but it had a bit of everything automotive or aviation related last time I went (and a Concorde now too).

Keep an eye out for classic car events there and go on a day when there's something interesting.

Ditto the Goodwood breakfast meets. Probably a bit late in the season but some good classic car meets to look out for there amongst others.

The Wiltshire and Gaydon ideas are good as not too far and use both these motorways regularly.

I was at Brooklands in 2006 but more racing models I recall.
