Your guess is as good as mine, could have been down to price, availability etc. As for the rocker cover again could be they picked the head up without one so just re-used to original. As long as it runs ok with the coil pack pushed down firmly I wouldn't worry too much.
She runs like a dream even with the lamba sensor problem. On a long run like the one im doing tonight of 230 miles i get about 38-39 mpg saying that i don't know what is good mpg for the 2.2 estate as it has some weight to it Even more with me sitting in it  ;D. As for the rocker cover i think i might just paint it as it looks crapola like it is.

Washing a car, is like making love to a beautiful woman.  caress the bodywork. Breathe softly and gently. And give every inch of it your loving attention. And make sure you've got a nice wet sponge.

Definately a 2.0 head! :(

so why are there clearance holes in a 2.0 where there should be thread holes on a 2.2?  :-/
Just curious.  ;)

He has a 2.0 head with a 2.2 rocker cover fitted. The 2.0 rocker cover doesn't have the clearance holes ;)

To difficult to put in words what I'm asking .....  :-?
The 2.0 doesn't have any where to bolt the coil pack to, it doesn't need to. The 2.2 has threaded holes in the head for  you to bolt the coil pack through clearance holes in the rocker/cam cover. If you put a 2.2 cam cover on a 2.0 head, then I'd have thought the bolts would have hit a solid 2.0 head with no holes in it  :-?  :-/  :-/  :-/

I know what you mean ;) The 2.0 has a virtually clear sunken section between the cams with the 4 plug wells in the bottom. The 2.2 has 2 built up towers with the threaded holes for the coilpack to bolt to. Try looking at the 2.2 cam cover HowTo and you'll see the towers :y

I see now!  :y  :y  :y

so it just need the sunken bits filled with chemical metal and a threaded insert in there.  :y

That's a lot of work. Easiest method would be to use a suitable sized one of these:-

Nah :P Bolt through the coilpack, turn the nut on a turn or two, hold the bolt head down as you push the coilpack home then pull up the bolt to hold the butterfly agains the cam cover and nip up ;)
