track day was going well........ till.......
« on: 07 July 2007, 21:31:19 »

hi guys ... yes it was track day fun today for the omega..!!!!

started @ 6.30am by checking fluid levels etc etc.... filled her full of unleaded and off i went!!!

morning session went without a hitch.... only changes since last time were i had 235/40/17's front and 245/40/17's rear.. instead of 225/45/17's on 8.5in rims :-/... which if you remember last time ended in tears after my mate popped one off the rim!!!.

once again was held up on corners by all sorts of cars 07 plate scooby sti, sierra cosworth etc etc..... only things that past me all day was a supercharged lotus elise, and a clit cup car... as a few of them came up todayfor test sessions to set up their cars....... :y

BUT.......... after plenty of sideways action... 3/4 tank of fuel in 78 miles....... i started to bomb down the straight as i braked there was an almighty bang and nearside front wheel locked up :o tyre smoke everywhere and lots and lots of funny noises.......

parked up jumped out to find......... front mount of lower arm had no bolt in it....!!!! it had come out!!!!!!!!!
peeled my wing open like a can, and pulled my plastic sill trim off!!!!! the wheel was wedged hard up against the bulk head so wasn't going anywhere!!!!:o

the marshal ran over handed me the bolt and said "this fell off mate" NO SH*T!!!!!! ha ha ha

what i have failed to mention is the friday before as in yesturday my car was in  a garage getting 2 lower front arms fitted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO WHO FORGET TO TIGHTEN THEM UP THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as you can imagin im not happy!!!!!!! it could of happened at top whack on back straight at 120mph+...

so im going to ring them momday and see what they say... yes i paid cash and no recipt.... BUT EVEN SO!!!!!!

but apart from the miss hap................... bloody good day

and you guys should really come down to one of them!!!!!!! :y

If it's a normal garage and this is the standard of their work, it could have happened in the outside lane of the motorway at 80/90. Not good!

well yes my thoughts the same!!!!!!!

im sure they are going to try either the you paid cash mate - prove it LINE... or the well its not meant for track use mate... which im sure will be the 1....... but fact is.. all my other lower arms didn't break nor did the parts fail in anyway... nothing broke... the bolt/nut simply were put in wrong way so they could fall out and they were not obviously tight!!!!!!!

And yes a normal garge that carries out repair work MOT's etc etc

I would also make them repair the rest of the damage at the same time thats if they admit they done wrong. If they say tuff then threaten with trading standards and Ministry of transport. As previuos statement could have happened on the motorway and caused a seriuos accident!!!
