Best car polish/wax for filling scratches?
« on: 15 February 2011, 17:43:58 »

Hi folks,

I've always used AutoGlym SRP on my Omega, and it brings the bodywork up like glass.

However, my Father-in-Law's motor has a few light scratches here and there (looks to be caused perhaps by cats claws).  With it being metallic black, if he uses AutoGlym SRP, the scratches stand out like a sore thumb.

He's tried Colour Magic, which does mask the scratches, but doesn't make the bodywork shine as much as it could.

Tried the T-Cut that's made for metallics, but it didn't make any difference.  He doesn't want to use the "standard" T-Cut incase it does more harm than good.

I'm sure I've heard somebody (not sure if it was on here or not though?) mention a polish or wax which "fills in" light scratches and swirl-marks.  Anybody any ideas what it could be?  Or anyone have any recommendations at all?

Cheers  :y

I had three deep scratches on the wing of my Manta caused by our Snow Leopard cat jumping on the bonnet. >:(
T cut or colour restorer didn't do anything to lift it and I eventually had to wet flat it using 2000 grade wet and dry . I then compounded it by hand and then polished it into oblivion.....
If you do try this use a litre of warm water with just a DROP of washing liqued and very gently flat the lacquer . Dry off , compound and polish the surface and then inspect. If still there try again .
The lacquer is quite thick on the Omega as I have had to flat a couple of sections on mine.
Good luck  :y

You're obviously a much braver man than me Olympia!!   :o  ;D

F-I-L's motor is a Nissan, so wouldn't think the lacquer would be as thick as on Omega's (seen quite a few Japanese motors suffering from lacquer peel, but not any Omega's - may be a total coincidence mind)

Thanks again for all your help and advice boys and girls, you've certainly given me some food for thought  :y

Triplewax do a polishing wax paste( green tub) and its very good. Only about £8 and can get it from halfrauds but it was the first product i used on the previously un polished omega and it came up a treat :y

The polish with the "wax crayon" worked for me once, only on an old shed though.  :y

I tend to use that... It's turtlewax colourmagig and then, Ideally, needs to be followed up with a decent Polish, then quality Wax... About a dys work to do it properly but worth it :y :y
