Personally,
I'm a MASSIVE fan of Pre-VW Skodas. I think they are the epitome of budget motoring and home fixability.

I've had several Favorits and Felicias. Their 1.3 petrol is essentially they same as it was in the 70's. Nice and reliable, 45mpg and VERY easy to work on.

Vw has improved the image of the brand no end though of course.
And with the fantastic VW diesel engines, all the VAG cars, audi, seat, VW, Skoda etc are all good cars.

Yeti has been raved about by JC on Togear too.
Seems a very capable car and i quite like the styling.

I wouldn't be surprised if depreciation was a lot less than you think it will be.
