Took a 6 litre Monaro VXR for a test drive last Friday. What a car! Drives like a dream. Not savage but quick when you floor it. Ride quality superb; no idea how they make it so smooth with such skinny tyres. Went round corners like it was on rails.

Downside: boot was absolutely miniscule. Someone's moved the fuel tank into it. Anyone know why? Euro regulations or something? Weight distribution? Looks a pretty mickey mouse job.

Also, steering was heavy a fck to park. Is that usual or has the part that tells it to lighten up the steering when not moving bust?

Here's where some intelligence would be useful: dealer stated the suspension setup etc is completely different on the 6.0L opposed to the 5.7L. Said it was a completely different car and the 5.7L was a heap. Anyone know how true this is?

Of all the cars to have a girly button, the Monaro is not one. Man up!   

And I wonder which the salesman was trying to sell you?

And agree the boot is a little poor, but then we are a little spoilt with the omega.

Later Monaros had tank moved to boot, I believe it was to comply with yankee legislation....

I believe there is a supercharged version. Badged VXR 500 ......or something similar...

Rear same as Omega, VX cars had the toe-correction bar fitted. (like Omega)
.... andskinny tyres ? mine's on 235's, that's way wide. Over-wide even for a car of that power.

Assumed poster meant depth as in thickness? Much thinner than normal.

I'd love a Monaro, really would. But I just did an insurance quote.

I agree with you Grrrrrrrr the monaro is a lovelly car and I know how fast they go

The steering when parking is on a par with DTi (which i feel to be just right).
The petrol tank was moved into the boot for safety reasons.
As for the 5.7 being a heap, i wouldn't have thought so. I can't comment on the car as i've not owned one, but the same engine (LS1) was used in my GTA & that was certainly no heap.

As for the tyres being "skinny". I wouldn't say that 245/35 R19's were skinny

Thanks chaps. Sounds like an earlier Monaro might have the tank where it should be and that's the one for me. Just need one at the right price and mileage now.

Oddly enough when I did a quick web search for insurance it came up with £900 pa. Sure I could get it lower if I shopped around. £5000 pa would be taking the p.

Oh, and yes, there is a supercharged version. I suspect you'd need to change your underwear everytime you arrived anywhere!

Who was that with? £5k was with Tesco. Think biggest issue with me having a policy is my age..... 26
