FORUM STRIKES AGAIN - THANKS TB
« on: 10 July 2007, 19:29:44 »

Well had a run up to Milton keynes today to have Tech 2 on the car, courtesy of Jaime (The Boy), everything was fine with the exception of a couple of faults codes yet to be diagnosed, reset the engine management light, but came back on again after leaving Oxford, after dropping into Maxv6 to return his speedo dials etc.. So killed two birds with one stone today, picked up some carb cleaner x3, lifter treatment, and latex gloves ::)

Jaime saved me a trip to Vx dealers :y, and a wee bit of advice so will be attempting to clean the breathers at the weekend, which will be my first mechanical/maintenance effort on the car :y

hope it goes well for ya, the clips on the breather pipes can be awkward to get off if you haven't got the right tool though ... but having said that if you order replacements, Vx supply ... jubilee clips  ;D

oh and you'll find latex gloves will be pretty much a waste of time as carb cleaner dissolves them!! The nitrile rubber (blue) ones are much better - and they don't make your hands smell either  ;)

point noted :y, bought a pair of them hose clip pliers, and a just done an order with Vx today the the O rings seals, and some brake fluid, and another seal potentially required, just over £4 :y, bought some standard jubilee clips as two of the breather hoses don't have them on, only the outside of the 4 have the original clips on.

Clips are only used on the outer (bigger) two breather pipes. You may well need the top-hat shaped breather assembly seal (p/n 90467543) as unless you're very careful moving it into position before screwing it back in place into the plenum chamber (tip - look from the side as you lower it back into place), you can slice through the corner and break the seal (I've done it more than once  :-[)

They do go a bit delicate when old.  I sent MikeDundee the part numbers for that seal and the 4 O rings (extended plenum) that also often fail during breather cleaning....
