Injector seals- Vxr
« on: 26 May 2011, 11:54:49 »

Anybody advise me where to look for vxr injector seals? I have the blue injectors fitted in my cav turbo, the seals are a touch on the brittle side hence they seep onto the inlet manifold. Autovaux and the local vauxhall can't get the individual part number up and wanted to sell me complete injectors. I can obtain regular rubber seals that should go on ok, but I worry they will deteriorate quickly again. I have had suggested silicone ones, and when I searched I cane across these..

http://www.polymax.co.uk/acatalog/Viton_Rubber_O-Ring_Kits.html
Only they are a bit on the expensive side. What would YOU do?
The car is going in for a dyno setup 1 week tomorrow so need these injectors sorting..
Opinions please  :y

I'd nip round to my local friendly garage ( that does my auto box work ) where they have a selection of o rings on the shelf, pick the right size and wack em on. Must be suitable for petro chemical applications, green or the correct black ones.

If you are getting fuel seeping into the manifold, it's the injector itself weeping not the O rings, surely?

I would get them cleaned and flow tested if they are weeping. Have had a set done here before:

http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/

They were back with a test report and new rubber O rings and finger filters within a couple of days (had just fitted the spare set when they turned up.) ;D.

The rubber O rings rarely give trouble (only when disturbed and re-used, IME) so I wouldn't worry about looking for other materials.

.. or are these injectors of the type that sit inside the fuel rail? I guess the rings could cause seepage then... ::)

EDIT: Re-read. Seep ONTO the inlet manifold... D'oh! :-[

It's off to SpecSavers for you, Kevin! ;)

Though I wonder if www.injectorcleaning.co.uk would supply O-rings separately to cleaning anyway? They were a helpful bunch when I dealt with them (fast on turnaround too as they were with you)

Yep, and a search for "fuel injector O ring" on EBAY looks quite fruitful too. :y

Yeah they just sit in the inlet, the injector rail just sits on top and it's all held in by a 13mm nut each end of the rail. The injectors seem to be one complete sealed unit. The one that leaks the worst (biggest damp patch around the base and a lean looking spark plug) and one other, the rubber at the bottom seems hard and a not-so-snug fit, all of them were slightly damp at least! My original thinking was to simply remove and refit with a smear of grease, but as I took them out I found they had already been greased, they have been in the car for a couple of years now and tolerating <20psi boost+associated heat factors, can't do them any good! Do I need to look for particular properties regarding what they will resist or will the typical 'from a selection tray' ones do?

Now checking out the link to find a phone number...

I seem to remember the (top feed, same as yours) injectors on the MR2 taking a 'funny size' O-ring at the top which I couldn't find in any selection trays..

If they're the same as mine then you've probably got a rubber O-ring at the top and a hard (viton?) 'seating ring' at the bottom that goes around another O-ring? Been a while since I took mine out though and now I can't remember if there's an O-ring at the bottom or just the seating ring (big thick hard thing).

I'll put a picture up later as far as I can see, just 1 top and 1 bottom o ring. I found a kit on 'bay, but how can I identify if I need a viton bottom o ring or even if they come in the kit as appose to regular rubber?

Should be fine :) The bottom seating on the MR2 is different, I think, because they're not expecting the injector seat to see positive pressure..

Although they're holding up just fine with it  ;D ;D
