Replacement numberplates
« on: 08 June 2011, 18:33:43 »

Two of the figures on my front number plate have delaminated from pressure jet washing - it means that my full numberplate wont be completely legible from a distance, so I'm going to have to replace it.

Thing is, I want to retain the original dealer info and logo on the bottom of it, and don't want to have to go to Bath to get the original dealer to make another one up for me.

I read in 'Practical Classics' last month about a guy who had beautifully restored an Alfasud (brave man 8-)), and he had also wanted to retain the original dealer info/logo on his plates, and although that dealer no longer exists, he took his request along to (presumably) a local auto factor type place and they recreated it for him.

Anybody else heard of this? Is this something they can all do?

If I gave them my existing (damaged) plate, what is the process from there?

Number plates are a pain in the arse these days, you will need the v5 document and passport/driving license before any factor will make you a new one, I believe the the suppliers name must also be written on the bottom of the plate, you can however go on eBay and buy "show"plates without ID
