Ford Focus aircon condenser failure
« on: 20 July 2011, 20:18:32 »

My daughter's Focus Titanium is just out of warranty. So of course the aircon condenser decides to leak and Ford want £420 to repair. ( Ford part is £200 but I can get one for £90 but that is not the point).

So I phoned Ford Customer service and asked if they would consider an out of warranty claim as the condenser had suffered from rivet failure and not the usual stone damage. Instead of fobbing me off with a "put it in writing" story - they phoned the Ford dealer who confirmed the reason for failure and then they asked me how many Ford cars I had owned from new - which happens to be about 7!! over the years. They left it that they cannot promise anything as aircon is only warrantied for 3 years but they will make a decision on friday. The mind boggles.

After something of a struggle in getting info from my daughter and the handler at Ford being off sick - finally managed to get a £200 contribution to the fix from Ford - won't go into detail but they were taking a line at one stage that it had not been regularly maintained - reason was the first service was not done at garage where servicing is done now and so they had not asked the questions of the right people. Anyway resolved but they should have paid more in my view given the source of condenser failure. Lesson - it is worth making an out of warranty claim if you have a main dealer service history.
