When father T's exhaust got re-fitted after having a replacement exhaust, we found that the slightly (very slightly!) bigger flexi caused the off side centre section of the exhaust to be very close to the subframe.

Under idle & engine load, it could hit subframe causing very nasty rattle / vibration which was very loud.

It was replaced with a eternal exhaust, which fixed the problem. As my exhaust was fubared, I popped his exhaust on mine as a temporary fix. It did same thing in mine, hitting subframe. (genuine gm exhaust but after the quality dipped)

Now, since having new shocks and springs fitted to mine, the vibration has gone.

Could new suspension components affect subframe height/position?  :-/ :-/

no, but could potentially reduce the vibration of the car  :-/

Depends on the condition of the donut bushes I guess, the bush centre is bolted to the chassis, that's going nowhere. But if the rubber around the bush center is fubar, there "might" be enough play for the springs to push the subframe rearward if the rear dif bolts are undone, then work done, and rebolted up.

I can't see there being any vertical movement in the subframe with fitting those new parts as the trailing arms(think swing arm on a bike) deal with vertical stuf independent of the subframe.

Unless something got trapped between the dif blocks and chassis when re fitting...? But that would bring the subframe lower...?

Depends where the exhaust is close, diificult to visualize from here. :-/

Just had 4 new springs & shocks on mine. Handles like a lotus  now. Very pleased

Its odd, the back of my car does not handle like a boat anymore! 

New shocks and springs on the front 6 months ago too, some new tyres and my trusty old steed will be in fine shape  8-)

....actually, did the exhaust restrict the pas side drive shaft and hence the sub frame from dropping? Pas side spring may have been more difficult to remove if so, and may have pushed the exhaust down slightly....perhaps?

Passenger side spring was entact, drivers side broken. Since doing coolant stuff yesterday the problem has appeared again, but not as bad.

Interestingly though I had KYB's and what I think pattern shocks on back, replaced with Boge springs and GM shocks, it does appear lower now at the back  :-?

Anyway, changing the exhaust today, putting a nice new eternal one on it.   8-)
