My answers are:
1. You are at traffic lights and there are two lanes going straight ahead. You are in the left of those two lanes lanes. The other side of the lights there is only one lane. Who has priority? A: You B: The cars on your right
Answer is: A -YOU. BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING FROM LANE 1 TO LANE 1. THE OTHER DRIVERS ARE CHANGING FROM LANE 2 TO LANE 1
2. You break down on the motorway and pull over to the hard shoulder. You have no mobile phone, so you decide to walk to the orange breakdown motorway phone. Which way should you walk? A. Towards on coming traffic. B Away from oncoming traffic C. Just to the nearest box in either direction.
Answer is: C. However, you should walk as far off the carriageway as you can and keep checking over you shoulder if walking with the flow of traffic for anyone straying into the hard shoulder!
3. Torque steer is unique to front wheel drive cars. True/False
Answer is: FALSE. Any rear wheel drive car or lorry with rear wheel steering can suffer this too. Also, 4x4 cars and anything with caterpillar /track drive
4. You are advised to remove your seatbelt to reverse. True/False
Answer is: FALSE. You are advised NOT to remove it but are ALLOWED to remove it. Advise is against it because whilst you are reversing, if someone drives head on into your front you could be thrown to the windscreen despite reversing.
5. You are never allowed to drive down the opposite carriageway of a dual carriageway. True/False
Answer is: FALSE. As many have spotted, you can be sent onto the opposite carriageway by a contraflow.
6. You are driving in a built up area with street lights. You are unfamiliar with the area and are unsure of the speed limit. There are no signs for over ˝ mile. What is the speed limit?
Answer is: 30MPH IS THE OBVIOUS ANSWER, BUT IF YOU ENTERED A 20MPH ‘ZONE’ , BUT MISSED THE SIGN, YOU WON’T GET ANY REMINDERS UNTIL THE ‘END OF ZONE’ SIGN. SO THE ANSWER IS UNCLEAR! So, if in doubt you should stop and call the police(NOT 999) who will advise you of the speed limit on that road. Ridiculous really, but I am accepting 30mph.
7. Are you ever allowed to drive through a RED traffic light? If so, when?
Answer is: YES. IF DIRECTED BY A POLICE OFFICER OR TRAFFIC WARDEN, IF THE LIGHTS ARE CLEARLY MARKED AS OUT OF ORDER AND YOU PROCEED WITH CAUTION ASSUMING NO RIGHT OF WAY OR IF YOUR LIFE IS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER.You are NOT allowed to drive through any traffic light just because they haven't changed for a long time. You should also NOT drive through a red light just because a police car is behind you UNLESS the police officers are clearly signalling for you to do so.
8. You are driving (without speeding) along a country road at 3am. You hear a thud and stop. You are now aware that you have struck a pedestrian who was walking in the road. You check and see that he is badly injured and unconcious. You write your name and address on a piece of paper and leave it in his top pocket. You then get back in your car and drive home. What offence have you committed?
Answer is: NONE. SEEMS HARSH BUT YOU HAVE ACTUALLY DONE ALL THAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW. AS LONG AS YOU STILL REPORT THE ACCIDENT WITHIN 24 HOURS YOU HAVE COMITTED NO OFFENCE. MORALLY, YOU ARE A TOSSER, BUT LEGALLY THIS IS CORRECT. THIS EXAMPLE IS ACTUALLY WHAT A SOLICITOR DID ONCE. Most of you have assumed that it is a crime to leave the scene of an accident, but it isn't. It is a legal requirement that you STOP. This we have done. You must also provide your name and address to any person who may have just cause to seek or need it. Youi are further required to report the acident to the police WITHIN 24hrs. The fact that you go home to bed is NOT illegal. It is morally unacceptabnle, but not illegal. You are NOT required to seek medical assistance, but again any decent person would do. Leaving the scene of an accident is fine if you have already stopped and provided details to anyone needing them. SCANDCELLOUS huh?
9. What is the minimum overall stopping distance for a car in good condition on a dry road traveling at 60mph? A. 60ft, B. 120ft, C. 180ft, D, 240ft, E. 300ft, F. 360ft.
Answer is: 240FT. Again, however this is based on statistics about 40 years old. Modern cars will stop much quicker. BUT, to calculate this use this simple table. Write down speeds from 20mph to 70mph in 10mph increments. The speed (ie 30) is also your thinking distance. To calculate your stopping distance write down next to the speed x1, x1.5, x2, x2.5 etc up to the 70mph which is x3.5. These are your braking distance. So, again using 30mph this would be 30 x 1.5 = 45ft. Add this to the thinking distance to get the overall stopping distance, ie 45+30= 75ft. So, using this table 60mph = 60ft + 180ft = 240ft.
10. Who, apart from police is authorized to stop traffic?
Answer is: TRAFFIC WARDENS, SCHOOL CROSSING PATROLS, CUSTOMS AND EXCISE, FIRE SERVICE, AMBULANCE SERVICE, THE ARMED FORCES. NOT Vosa. Who will have police with them for the purpose of stopping you.
10 out of 10!!!!!
Good eh?
