L'Omega en Paris...
« on: 17 August 2007, 13:16:28 »

Got back last weekend, but not much time to post since...

Just over 1000 miles, average 26mpg - not too bad since a big chunk of that was in central Paris.

I didn't need to use the triangle, hi-vis jacket, spare light bulbs, tool kit, AA cover, gendarme tokens, or even produce my documents. 8-)  And no mishaps driving on the wrong side of the road.  :D  Though I had to use the power once to get out of the way of a reversing 4WD.  ;)

Adjusting the headlamps was a doddle - but I do have fairly narrow hands...

The only problem was an "Automatic Gearbox" warning, just as we were leaving EuroDisney at 10:30PM.  :o  I had no low gears (though selecting 1 or 2 seemed to work) - so I had to drive back in high gear - which wasn't a problem given the journey was all on main roads.  But I was a little concerned for the journey back to Blighty...   :(   The good news is that it was fine next morning - and hasn't happened again, on the way home, nor since.  SWMBO thinks it was a "blip"  :-?  but I'm still a little concerned as to what caused it - would a Tech2 check show anything?

Below: L'Omega outside a well-known art gallery...

Cheers,
Baz.

EuroDisney was great, if you like that sort of thing...  :-/

It's big, but not too big - and was therefore a lot more manageable than DisneyWorld (Florida) which we did 4 years ago.  You still walk a long way though!   :'(  (that's sweating, not crying!).  And there's now a second park (film lot, or something) if you get fed up with the first...

Probably more suited towards the younger age range - my 11 year old was over the moon since she was tall enough to ride on everything this time - but I think the 16 year old found some of it a bit beneath him. There are probably only about 3 or 4 "major thrill-seeker" rides - though plenty of others to keep you busy.

About 230 Euros for the 5 of us on a single-park day ticket.   :o :( :o   Food a good bit on top of that...

Access is dead easy from the A4 (I think).  On-site hotels are expensive - find a local gite instead!   :y

PM me if you need to know anything else.
Cheers,
Baz.

Glad you had a good time mate.

I get the 'automatic gearbox' warning appear every now and again, all i do is pull over, switch off and switch on again, it seems to sort itself.

Some people have said it might be the selector starting to play up, mine has been like it since i first got her

I have found a special offer from tchibo:

2 days in a 4 star Hotel with the option to extend for another 2 days,

and that for 99 Euros per adult children between 3 and 12, 49 Euros.

What do you think on the price ??

That sounds like a good deal to me...  :y

Tunnie - we nearly got caught on the Tuesday closing too - fortunately spotted it in the guidebook...

So maybe my Autobox warning was a blip after all?  I can't possibly tell the wife she was correct!!   ::)

No, the autobox warning was no a 'blip'. You can try a fluid change, or selector switch.  On a 3.0l, it may just be the start of a failing thrust washer....

Whatever, you want to get it checked out...

I fully agree with Jaime, the autobox going into limp mode is not a blip (as many unskilled mechanics would try to mislead you, if they don't know what's causing it)

There are many potential causes, including selector switch, engine asking gearbox to limp (TPS), or (hopefully not) the thrust washer has dropped, even more likely if it's an AR35.

Tech2 will read the gbox ECU codes which will give you an initial (but not conclusive) indication of what's up.

If you can't pinpoint, aim for a selector switch cleanout and gearbxo fluid change. Pop the front sump off first, and check for the thrust washer of doom in there. If none - proceed with ATF change.

Jay - I notice you have this car up for sale - would recommend posting info about the fault in the for sale section, to aviod any disappointments to potential buyers ;)

i had this problem with my old senny if you started from cold and put it in gear quick it would go into limp mode also happend if you booted it steep hills while towing.never got any worse and i thrashed that car all the time in sports mode. i bought the car from my old boss and he told me about this but it only came on a few times in about 2 1/2 years and i would switch off then on problem sorted  ;) :y
