Non starter
« on: 15 October 2006, 09:56:34 »

Hi
I have a pre-facelift Omega 2.0, ( only had it two months ), if I travel 12 mile round trip, then turn off the engine, it wont re-start, I get all lights on dash, and a click from around ( it seems ) the gearlever area, is there a starter relay anywhere that could be at fault. your help would be appreciated.

ps have fitted a new battery

Regards

Hi Peanuts and welcome to the forum  :)

Is your car a manual or automatic? I know autos usually have inhibitor switches to stop you starting it in anything other that park or neutral. I'd also check all the connections at the starter motor, battery terminals etc and make sure they are clean and tight. If the starter motor itself is sticking, it will also give a loudish click, get someone to turn the key for you whilst you have a listen from under the bonnet. On the 2ltr, the starter motor is buried under the inlet manifold on the left hand side of the engine bay as viewed from the front.
I'm sure some of the more experienced Omega guys will be able to point you in the direction of relays etc but these are just some basic checks to have a look at first.

Cheers Jim

Peanuts, have you tried a 'papeclip test' - it flashes out the fault codes stored by the engine management system. Post the results up here and we can give further advice :)

(If you're unsure as to what paperclip test is, check out the FAQ section, and it will tell you what to do (basically, short out 2 pins on diag connector under steering wheel, and count flashes on dash))
