Late Omega trim specifications & fuel consumption
« on: 07 November 2006, 23:40:57 »

Just in case someone could make use of my trawling the forum and the web, I have compiled the following spec. differences between the late Omega models (note - significant differences only). They are all collected or anecdotal, so I claim no responsibility for their accuracy. If anyone spots any errors or omissions (wait for the deluge !), then let me know (or even better - edit it yourself).

The table was a real pain to put in - if anyone else can tidy it up it's fine by me.

Of particular note is the reduced specification of the sport model compared to the MV6.

I am sure that will be useful. :)

Has to be mentioned though, toward the end of production, they tended to throw extras on to the lower specced models, like leather, HIDs etc.

Has this helped you decide which one you want yet? ;)

laidback66,
well, it has certainly ruled out the Sport.

I probably won't go for the MV6 either, because I want comfort and refinement. I don't like the sound of the stiffer suspension combined with the lower profile tyres. I had a bad experience with a Rover 620Ti once that sounded like a rock concert (even at 40 mph) due to the tyre roar.

I heard recently that most family cars, despite all the advances in technology, are noisier that cars 15 years ago due to the tyre roar induced by the much wider, lower profile tyres that are used on even very modest cars these days.

i think elite now has same wheels/tyres as MV6.

Annually, I take my prefacelift MV6 to south of France and do the journey in 1 day (ie 4am - 9pm non stop except ferry and food/comfort breaks) and do not find it tiring, which must say something for the ride, and that it doesn't appear in any way noisy or harsh...

I agree with Jaime. I have a manual MV6 sitting on the drive at home and it is both comfortable and quiet (noticably more so than my Saab on both counts!).

With the correct tyres (ie decent quality!), road noise is minimal.
The suspension is lower and stiffer, but better for it in my opinion. :)

A facelift elite is VERY quiet on the road and has wonderful ride quality (and has the truly stunning Bose sound system! :D)

LB, if you had a 3.0 Elite would you swap the suspension for MV6?

Theo, I've got both right now and no, I would not do it.

If you want firmer suspension on your Omega, either buy an MV6 or change the shocks on your elite to Bilstein sports and get some shorter springs (be warned this is not a cheap option!)
Don't be tempted to put on 2nd hand shocks and springs. This is not recommended.

Personally I would say enjoy what the Elite offers. If you want a more sporty drive, sell it and buy an MV6 (manual). :)

I was thinking of used MV6 springs and new shocks, either stock MV6 or Bilstein.  I would have to remove the load levelers either way.  I don't know what they are, but the front shocks look new.  It is a bit harsh over the bumps for how soft the front is when pushed.  The back isn't that bad.

I am inclined to leave the Elite suspension, I just wish I knew what front shocks were in it so I would know if they were worth replacing.  I doubt that front Bilsteins and rear load levelers would work very well.  I am not inclined to trade this one in on another, pretty happy with it overall.

I have a 2.2 CD fitted with 16" alloys shod with Pirelli P7 tyres.

They were factory fit with firmer sidewalls to aid cornering for large saloon cars, together with low road noise, good grip (wet & dry) and last changed after completing 20k.

I've never had such tyres with even wear and longevity but particular bonus is peace and quiet on the road - noticed even more when I have to drive my wife's Meriva which rumbles along with no respect for the occupants hearing.

Coose your car carefully and your tyres even more......

i have just spent 2 days driving 700 miles around the UK, mainly motorway and A roads.

comfy as hell, hardly any road noise and still an enjoyable car to drive, and i have been returning 29mpg from my 2.5 Elite.

It always amazes me how well it performs....
