Milage Meter stopped - Omega 2.2 - Facelift
« on: 12 December 2006, 09:54:13 »

I have a 2003 Omega 2.2 that did not do more than 28,000 km, but the Milage meter stopped @ 26999 and the assholes @ the dealer could not do anything to that except recommending to change the whole Meters dashboard since this can not be fixed .

the counter itself is mechanical but i guess is getting electronic signal from wheels, all other meters are working properly including the distance meters in the electronic display system.

would that be same sensour for ABS/speedo meter ?
any ideas please ? , changing meters really hurts!  :o

Are there any other parts of the dash unit not functioning properly?

As you've been told you may need a need unit

I am assuming the speedo and rev counter still work so the ABS sensor would be working.

Could be a case of its jammed.

all the dash units parts are working .  including the ABS sensour ....

I also thought about Jammed meter , but if the dealer refused to fix it , I have to search for some local repair shop capable of doing so...

at least with my past experience , once this dash is removed , it never gets back to normal!. ;)

I believe there is a guide on here for dash removal perhaps you could give it a go at fixing it yourself.

Either that or try find one with similar mileage which is known to be working.

The mileage counter is mechanical but don’t let this mislead you, it is driven by the same electric signal as the speedo and not by a mechanical cable.

If the problem is with the mechanical counter itself, you may be able to fix it but if it is electronic then you are not likely to be able to do anything about it (unless you see an obvious cold soldering point on the PCB etc).

I had the same problem, and the Vx dealer replaced the whole instrument panel – luckily under warranty, the car was only a year old at the time.

Incidentally, the Retail price of a new instrument panel was £160+VAT, but if you intend to change it then get one from a breakers yard with similar mileage, or go see TheBoy – I believe the mileage can be changed with Tech2?

I think he may be a little far away to see TheBoy  ;D

I removed the dash on mine to replace some bulbs and it is very easy and I managed not to mess mine up afterwards! I didn't crack open the milage counter though...

Incidentally - do you know if Tech2 can read 'true mileage' on the Omega, i.e. does the ECU store the mileage somewhere? I know BMWs do...

No, certainly not on earlier ones...
