Full geometry required in Scotland
« on: 15 December 2006, 13:18:38 »

Howdoo.  Unsure of whether this is destined for here or general chat.  Did ask before ages ago (can't remember if here or elsewhere) and unable to find the post or replies.

My 1998 MV6 manual is getting fitted with new lower suspension arms, steering idler and 4 new F1 tyres (ouch!) next week and I need to find a recommended place in Scotland to get full geometry done thereafter.

I am aware of WiM but all are waaaaay too far south.  He cannot supply any recommendations this far north unfortunately, but can supply the required settings for use by the technician.

Looking for Edinburgh/Aberdeen/Glasgow sort of triangle.

Any places that have been used and would use again?

I'm told that one of the Quick Fit garages in Edinburgh is the only QF branch in the UK with the full geo/comp kit.  Dunno if thats a good or bad thing!!

Thinking more of the luxury saloon/race type places, rather than mainstream fastfits TBH.  Recommendations most welcome.

Broocie,

Automotive Services
Tel: 01383 738077
Workshop A Broomehead Dv, Dunfermline KY12 9DT.

Say no more. Four wheel camber/castor/toe in/out. Excellent outfit and the owners other business concern is developing bespoke suspension stuff for racing cars.

Reminds me, must book both our Meegas in to get the alignment done!!  :o

Cheers Rod.  I had been referred to there (off site) already, but did not want to pre-empt any possibly reply here.  I understand that its a chap called Job (Yob) Geivers who is the owner and main man, but now concentrates down The Bay where he is developing rally type stuff?

Will await further info then, if nothing else, check out once my beastie is done.

Cheers     :y

Absolutely correct on the Job/Yob front. Dunno what further info you're looking for mate, I've already had the alignment done on the MV6 about a year ago and they're excellent. I've just had a new set of wishbvones fitted so it'd be prudent to get it done again!!

Cheers!!

Yup, thats the bu**er!!  Its the only QF branch in the UK that does it, apparently!

And the manager of my local(ish) branch assured me that he would undercut ANY price of tyres if he had proof of price.  And that specifivally included blackcircles.com and others - any source, as long as price can be verified.  EXCLUDING delivery......

I wouldn't go near a KF if my life depended on it.

I took my Supra to the one at Eglinton Toll in Glasgow for a four way alignment about 6 or 7 years ago. They had it all day and when I went to pick it up, the dick who looked at it said that he couldn't do the job 'cos my shockabsorbers were worn. (Bear in mind, the car passed a very strict MOT less than a week previously!!).

So I asked him to show me what he meant, so he stuck the car on the ramp. He showed me what he called excessive play on the camber of the rear wheel. Now don't get me wrong, there was a bit of play, but nothing that I wouldn't expect TBH. He was blaming the shockers at the back. Now for those that don't know, the Supra has double wishbones at the rear, so any movement has bu**er all to do with the damper(s), but he swore blind that was the problem!!

While he was taking the car off the ramp, he reeled off a list of things that he 'thought' were wrong with my car, (All stuff that KF could sell me funnily enough!!).

I've never been back even to balance a wheel!!

;D ;D ;D  My thoughts as well, TBH........

But I would use them to undercut prices and supply tyres, however......
