cheers MarkJay

My gut feel is that will write it off with the option of 'buying it back' which leaves the option of buying another Omega and swapping good parts from my damaged one to the new one OR stripping this one down and selling

Loads of bits that are great and a peach of an engine!

If you live anywhere close to Swindon, I can recommend an excelent bodyshop  :y
Had a car in there a couple times for rear end damage, mind you nothing needing replacing, just knocking the dents out and remoulding the bumper and respraying.
Plus i told them to bodge the repair so it looked half decent.......you carnt tell unless you know where to look and was well cheap  :y

Taxi Driver, cheers mate... I live in Norfolk  ::)

Not sure how well this damage could be 'repaired', think it will need a new panel...

Are the rear panels bolt on, on the Omega?

Don't know, but unlikely on any car nowadays... ...fronts usually are, not rears.

Absolutly NOT bolt on !

The rear  tunnel or wheel arch area is the strongest part of a car !

If you are going to repair it, i would NOT mess about, have it done properly, and if it is done properly you will have to have it VIC tested before it can go back on the road ?

This panel will require an aligning machine or jig ! If the car is repaired on the cheap, and its ever in another accident, AND an engineer see's this repair ( which he will do) you f***ed !
Have it done properly or NOT at all mate

Seriously though.

It might, MIGHT just be worth going in to a few dodgy/cheap bodyshops, and asking if they can dress the damage out !
OK it will require a skim of filler even if you find a skilled panel beater !

I'm fairly sure that split MIGHT tack/weld up enough for the damage to be dressed out.

Is the rear light area badly damaged, or is the damage limited to the actual flat side of the panel !

You never know, someone might do it for £300 or there again you might get laughed out of the bodyshop suggesting / asking if it can be beaten out !!

I'd try mate, if you like the car, BUT as you have contacted the insurance now, your fairly buggered !
Even if you buy it back, it will be listed as a CAT C ( minimum) for the rest of its life and will show on any HPI check ! You will also have to have the car VIC checked too as it now going through the insurance !
The Insurance aint gonna fix that mate, i'm fairly certain!
But if you do buy it back, you will HAVE TO adhere to guidlines now, and that will involve a VIC check to get it back on the road !
