back up or main alarm?
« on: 23 December 2006, 23:58:39 »

Getting the alarm going off about 10 mins after a journey.

all indicators flash and alarm/horn sounds for a couple of mins then only flashing indicators for another couple of mins thensstops.
I can also stop the alarm by  remotely unlocking the doors and locking them again.

Does this sound like the main alarm system or the back up alarm ?

Could be either, but with backup battery failure usually also get an occasional 4 beeps when you leave the car.

From my experience, if its the horn sounding rather than power sounder, it's less likely to be a battery issue...

Its not the power sounder going off....thats a siren

Its the main alarm if horn sounding.....check the bonnet switch.....this might not be properly upright.....failing that....can you get it read on a tech2, that will tell you which alarm sensor is causing the prob.

On some, and no apparent way of knowing, it requires carpass to read alarm codes (rare). On some, it just requires carpass to clear them... (common)

Thanks for all info - looks like the main alarm - took car for run opened bonnet tapped down switch locked car 15mins later off goes alarm  The funny thing is when the alarm goes off if I turn alarm off and on by key remote then it doesn't happen again until after I take the car out on a run.

Looks like I'll have find someone with a tech2 to identify the fault or even pay a visit to vaux dealer and I bet they don't give post-Xmas sale bargains for use of tech2

Thanks again for help and ideas.
