hmmm ..... I wonder if the engine has been swapped at some point? Does it have the extended plenum chamber, as I thought retail MV6's were post mini-facelift so would have this ... ???
Not all - my retail mini facelift MV6 has proper (and cheaper) oil filter. The paper element one appear to come in at some point in late 98, early 99.
I meant the extended plenum chamber - it is possible (and not unknown) for the canister type to be swapped for a cartridge type - some people prefer this. I thought the engine changes came at the same time as the internal trim mini-facelift ... ????

if it's any consolation ... I changed my oil and filter again today (after the shennanigans of last time) and ... the lid came off no probs, as expected :)

so it goes to show that there shouldn't be any trouble getting it off as long as the monkeys tighten it to the setting cast into the lid ... as if (!!!)  ::)

Just tried an oil & filter change... couldn't get the oil filter cap off, it was last tightened by Vx... had to abandon the project, I was working at the roadside near my office (while parked in a Pay & Display…) and couldn’t risk getting the entire housing off, which would have meant leaving the car in the Pay & Display while trying to fix the problem… Arghhh.  >:(

Yes, extended plenum came in on 3.0 with mini facelift...   ...the paper oil filter did not come in until later though...
