Fitting MID
« on: 10 February 2007, 15:22:56 »

As many know, the V6 CDX is going to soon be broken, and replaced by a 2.0 LPG CD.

The CD has obviouisly got reduced toys, and there are a few things I'm going to take over, such as CD changer, head unit, ..

My questions are: I want a full MID, rather than the clock thing that's in the CD currently. Would it be possible to fit an MID in the CD, fit the wiper stalk with the buttons, and obtain all of the info on screen such as fuel consumption/range etc?  I would imagine it would be, my other 2.0 CD had a working MID.
How would this be done?

Cheers ;D

i am wondering if you will have the sensors in place for range and other bits... also the MID will have to be re-programmed with tech2 if you do have the sensors as it will be configured for V6 consumption.

Yeah.. I'm aware of the programming bit...

As far as sensors go, I thought it just got it's information from the ECU?

I remember someone who fitted a full MID in an older Omega and constantly got the "oil lack" warning, due to a lack of a sensor (pardon the pun)

Same for coolant too i think....

Not really sure though can't really remember  :-/

I will confirm when I remove the dash on the CD

I guess if they're the same it will work, if not then it won't?

Not necessarily, but if the plugs are there, the loom probably will be, and worse case they I suspect would be adding the sensors...

Coolant would be easy - simply change the expansion tank for the one with the sensor in the bottom.  Oil may be a little more tricky and to be honest, I am not sure where the sensor for this is located externally on the engine (I know, of course, that it is in the sump  ;D but where it is mounted I am not sure).  On the 2.0 the sensor is screwed into the sump, on my Cavalier it is at the front of the engine, and I am therefore guessing that for this engine in the Omega it would be on the nearside of the engine.

There may be other sensors that you require, like the screen wash level and brake pad wear sensors.  In all probability you will need to transpose the check control ECU from your CDX to the CD.

I would suspect that you really need the loom already in place to make fitment easy - if it is not I am sure that it could be done..............

Hope this helps.

On the V6 it's inside the sump, and the sump is officially an engine-out job (though apparently you can cheat a bit by releasing only one engine mount)
