Trip Computer

How do everyone!

Had my 2.2 CD Auto for a few weeks now and I have a likkle question regarding just
how accurate the computer is. The needle on the petrol gauge is into the red but
pressing the computer shows the range is say 55 miles. How accurate is this
computer?? Can one rely on it?

Also when the petrol light comes on, how many miles comfortably would you
get before the car ran out of petrol completely?

Cheers

The range on the trip is dependent on your driving over the last so many miles.

Around town you may find that it tells you that its got 20 miles left, go on a dual carriageway or motorway and this'll increase to say 40 as your MPG will be better cruising rather than stop start.

Don't know how about the fuel light. Haven't run it dry (yet!). But last time the fuel light came on, the range thingy reckoned I had 16 miles left.

My light comes on when the comp. says there's about 30 left.

It's better to keep the tank about half full at all times though!

Empty tanks can get condensation in, hence not recommended to leave too empty.

Saying that, I have run my FC down to 0 on more than 1 occasion.

The time to start worrying is when fuel light starts flashing......tho i tend to believe the comp more than the guage....my guage on my 2.2 is a bit iffy....sometimes i can start it.....guage hasnt moved of the stop, light is flashing (only does this when 1/4 full or less) but comp can say 70+miles to go. I did let it run down to 15miles to go once.....but was still ok  ::)

I find the misfire, and the walk to a petrol station a dead giveaway ;)

In every single vehicle I have owned or had through work, with exception of the current Rover and the Omega...   ...trust me, the ZX10 is bloody heavy with no engine running....   ::)

When my low fuel light started to flash at me on Tues coming home from work I put all but 70 litres in it to fill it - that leaves about a gallon left in the tank.

Many thanks for the replies. All very helpful.

I guess the best thing to do is not to be a scrooge and make sure
the petrol light does not come on.

Cheers
