Tappinf noise
« on: 10 April 2007, 14:28:43 »

Hello, can anyone help.

When I start the car, with the engine hot or cold, I have a loud tapping or ticking noise coming from the engine. It is either from the top of the engine, or the round black thing (poss EGR?) just to the right. The oil level looks OK.

Any offers.

Many thanks.

agree exhaust manifold gasket or split exhaust manifold. probably between 2nd and 3rd cylinder.

Can crack due too cold water being put onto manifold when hot. You will need to take the shield off the top of the manifold to see if this is your problem. :-?

If its just the gasket and you can do it yourself - it doesn't look overly hard on a 2.0 as you have space - it'll be cheap.

Even if the manifolds cracked you can probably get a reasonably descent one from a scrap / breakers yard - again doing it yourself.. Vauxhall will charge the earth so if you can't do it, better off getting a reputable local garage / mechanic to do it for you..
