Urgent HELP Needed HBV Query

Will a V6 HBV be ok to put on a 2.0?

Was driving along last night and the Check coolant came up on the MID stopped to find the Coolant bottle empty and that I was leaving a trail of coolant behind me.

Filled with water to get me home, had a look this morning to find the HBV at the back was soaking wet, so I paid a visit to a scrappy as last resort and they had a V6 in with it still in place.

VX parts department I thought was open on a sunday sods law they are not :'( as I would have bought New visited both VX in Hitchin to no avail :-/

How much would these usually cost at VX thinking put this one on temporarily and buy new next month.

Although the one I got is is pretty good condition could even be quite new as it was held on with jubilee clips not the spring clips mine has.

I replaced mine recently, IIRC it was just under £30 inc VAT retail price. Rip-off for what it is, but it's far from the worst (rocker gasket prices are scandalous!)

Guess I did well at the scrappy then charged me £10 for it which inc 3 Jubilee clips. ;D

about £25 new.  if old one is sound, don't bother changing, though (esp as you have your dads to look after) may be prudent to keep one in stock...

No i'm quite fortunate my dads is non AC. :) but still I shall be getting a spare for if the scrappy one decides to die on me.

Managed to get it sorted yesterday was abit of a pain getting the Coolant what with VX being shut but found the esso that lives in building next to Vx did gm red so its got the good stuff in.

Taking the HBV off the V6 was easy peasy but getting it on mine was a right PITA, I ended up putting mine up on ramps and then fitting from beneath.

Still its all fitted back and I now have hot air again ;D and no leak

£56 for what is basically 4 shaped, thin strips of rubber! I remember changing the rocker gasket on my old 4-pot Audi, single head obviously but the gasket for that was more substantial metal-backed with rubber on either side and it was about £10-15.  Much easier job too, but it's not really fair to compare a 4-pot with a V6 in that regard.

Even the BMW V8 gasket set is about £35 IIRC, and the outer ones for each head are much bigger.

Agreed, a wee bit expensive, however they will definately NOT leak if fitted properly,,,  cheapo ones WILL leak,  I had cheapies, £32 for the 4, 28 days and 320 miles later, had to get genuine VX ones at TC price... and do the job again!!!   Always try VX first for parts, they're usually competitive for the quality.....

Cheap maybe not, but inexpensive compared when you factor in the extra time and $$ to buy the genuine ones after spending on the aftermarket ones.  Picked up an Omega with this listed as a job recently done in a non Vx garage and I ended up doing mine less than 3 months and a couple of thousand miles later.  Needless to say, GM ones went in...  I just hope I fitted them properly  :-/
