A set of metal Vectra camcovers for £30. Are they worth fitting to the Omega.

Yes, if you haven't recently had yours off for a re-seal. Once the Vectra ones have been fitted properly the seem to last forever as the y don't warp/bow like the Omega ones.
But i guess you know this already ;)

I wouldn't poay that much for them.

At the end of the day, the Omega ones very rarely warp or bow and the numebr one cause of failure is blocked breathers...and the genuine gaskets last very well....

Personaly, I am happy that the cam cover gaskets are the weak link....and not my crank seal.....

Also, 'warped covers' is what the garage usually says when the cam covers leak again shortly after being fitted with new seals.... but the real reason they leak is that they did not clean the breathers / used pattern gaskets / did not apply the sealant properly.... In reality I don't think that 'warped seals' is that common, I guess the mechanics are more likely to say this when they see plastic covers than metal/alloy ones... although plastic, the tightening torque is quite low and there is rubber underneath, so I can't see why they would warp that easily. Engine overheating? possibly, but even then they would still take some serious beating before actually warping.

I agree there MJ....but will mention i think ClarCE changed his cam cover gaskets several times before he changed the cover....i believe this fixed it for him.....but as you say....probably rare event.
