possible engine sensor ?
« on: 17 May 2007, 20:31:53 »

hi, my car is down on power, the throttle response isnt as good, sometimes it flies but most of the time its underpowered, ive been told by a vauxhall mechanic that it might be the crank sensor. my engine management light bulb has been removed i think because it never comes on,even on startup. ive been advised by my local vauxhall garage to take the car to them and they will read the fault for me. could this symptom be consistent with a faulty crank sensor ??

It's a possibility. You need to

A) Pop out the instrument panel, and replace the engine management bulb that the monkeys removed

B) Either flash out the codes with the paperclip test (depending on age of car).. or get it read with a code reader such as Tech2 - and post up the results.

We'll take it from there.

Yes, on a 94, fix the bulb and do paperclip test. We can tell you wants wrong for free, forget the dealers ;)

Hi,
I also have been getting the same problems that you have been experiencing, ie poor idling on start up, underpowered etc. I did the paperclip test and it gave a fault code for a crank sensor. I took it to a auto electrician who checked it and said it was the cam sensor.
The car sometimes stalls but restarts. Also I have noticed that the trip computer screen sometimes is missing the middle line of the display.
Went to get a haynes manual but it did not show a cam sensor. Am lost for what the problem might be.
Need to find a reliable mechanic, any recomendations for the staffs area.

Read the paperclip codes again, and post here...

just replaced the eml bulb, light is now staying on. i done the clip test and have came up with the following codes
16
135
144
145

I also reset by switching on and off 30 times, took the car for a run and the light went off but came back on again so i reset it
again and the the light is now staying on. car is running better though, but there is a hum like a pump running and its coming from
the passenger side.
Any ideas ?? :-/

I think a knock sensor fault will make the ECU go into safe mode.

A knock sensor fault is usually the wiring - cut or chaffed.

MarkDTM has put a full list of fault codes in the FAQ section here:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1160152415

I'd ignore the immobiliser ones for now, and the engine warning lamp (you've just fixed it).

Don't worry about resetting fault codes by turning the ignition off either - makes little difference - if you've fixed the problems the EML will go off and the fault codes will disappear over time.

I think the knock sensor wires can get trapped in the cam covers. If the wire is damaged you need to repair it carefully it's a screened cable (conductor in the middle, braid outer). Do a tidy job and you'll probably get away with it.
