Both boxes have their problems, and neither is cheap to fix. It's just that with a manual box you have some 'control' over whether to put up with it for a while or get it seen to. With an auto, it goes, and you're stuck!

Mine has always been a bit stiff.  Oooer Mavis  :o

I've had the old girl since new and the first job I had done was with the gearbox. All they did was change the wet stuff and said it was a trait and just to live with it as it was withing reasonable tolerance etc.

I've only had one problem before and that was after washing it in the freezing cold and it sorted itsself out when it warmed up.

If first is tight, pull it back onto second (without engaging) then push it forward into first quickly.

You can achieve a similar thing when engaging revers as well.

This works AA, but may be a bit hard to sell on if the buyer can't even get it going  :(

Is there anything I can do to free it up? :-?

The simple solution is to swap it for an auto ;)

Mines a manual & its sweet as a nut, goes in all the gears easy & positive, but then it's a mans gearbox not a girly auto ;D  might be low oil in box or in need of a  change of oil causing the probs  ;)

Auto...me...never >:(

Although it does seem connected to OOF DIY.  Last time I cleaned the throttle body my revs went wierd, now I've changed the coolant my clutch has gone weird, connection  :-?

It's now stiff as a b*stard and I have to start the car with the clutch down every time  :-[
