Yesterday morning, started OK, but seemed a tiny bit rough for about 1/4 mile, was then OK.

As it's a nice day today, decided to give it a bit of a check over, throttle body, breathers etc.

Then decided to check the plug wells.

No. 4 well shows signs of water ingress, and the plug contacts and electrode itself is slightly carbonated.

Now I used to have this problem when the passenger wiper, where it goes into the scuttle, was leaking after heavy rain, but I successfully sealed that.

Just done a water test on the scuttle, no water leaks whatsoever!

Can only put it down to the very heavy rain we've had over the last few days.

The reason for this post, if you've got a 4 pot that has been standing in the heavy rain, it might just be worth you checking the plug wells.

After putting it all back together, it now runs like a dream again.

I had the same problem recently AA and have since sealed up the wiper arm.  I had to change the plugs too and ran great for a month but still a bit off first thing in a morning and when on cruise down hill at 30 - I suspect butterfly is sticking as it clears when it's warm :-/

That's interesting. My wife just reported a similar sounding problem with our 2.0.   Mainly when starting from cold but also rough running still apparent when warm.   I started the old girl up this morning and it certainly sounded rough - almost like it was missing on one cylinder.

I have yet to investigate but the plug wells will be my first stop.  I suspect either water or oil from leaking gasket.

The fuel filter is due (overdue actually - I've just been putting it off .  Could that cause similar symptons? wouldn't have thought that would make much difference hot or cold).

If it's been standing in the torrential downpours we've had lately, it's likely to be water in the plug wells.

4 pots seem more prone than the peculiar ones shaped in a V.

Water will evaporate when the engine is warm, but it won't do the plug wells any good.

I'll whip the cover off and have a look tonight.

Car stands in a carport overnight so I am not completely convinced :-/
