Rough Running Caused By Exhaust??
« on: 13 July 2007, 16:48:46 »

This is really a follow on from my previous post about changing cam cover seals.

I had cause to stick my MV6 on the ramp at ATS today.

There seems to be a pinhole in one of front pipes to the cat (blowing through the much bigger hole in the outer pipe).  The ATS man suggested that if it's in, or anywhere near the emmissions sensor (Lambda Sensor???) then that may be the cause of the recent rough running and not the Cam cover seals.

Now that I've shown my mechanical ignorence again, :-[ anyone got any thoughts????

Thanks again!

A leak at the front of the exhaust could confuse lambda readings and cause the car to run rich...

Definitely possible. Air will get in as well as out and the lambda sensor readings will not be quite right.
