What type of sealant?
« on: 17 July 2007, 17:19:11 »

As some of you may be aware, I have a leak somewhere between the bottom of the windscreen rubber and wiper scuttle.

I read somewhere that the best type of sealant to use is Gutter/Roofing sealant as it remains flexible and it's easy to remove any surplus with white spirit.

Something like these:- http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?isSearch=true&fh_search=Gutter+Sealant&selected=products&x=27&y=10

Comments welcomed please.

AA I can get you some sealer that they use on windscreens called "Sikaflex", If you can wait until the Wales meet I will bring a few tubes with me, otherwise I could send you some....... :y

IF you were driving along the road and a stone smashed your windscreen, wouldn't your insurance send a nice man to fit a new windscreen and make sure it was sealed properly?
Otherwise, try asking at your local windscreen fitters I'm sure they will know what to use.

Till I take the scuttle off, not sure where the leak is, it's not through the wiper spindles, that's for sure.

It may not be through the bottom windsceen rubber either.

Would the sealant you have be suitable for fixing, say a crack in the scuttle, if there was one?
