Windscreen wipers adjustment?
« on: 27 July 2007, 09:24:07 »

Hi all, me again!

Can anyone tell me if it is difficult to adjust the windsreen wiper allignment.

Basically they are not stopping in the right place, they go down to bottom and then jump back up a good few inches before stopping?  It also means they go off the windscreen while sweeping!

Also the washer jets seem to be blocked, the pump is working and I cleaned out the filter as described in the how to section but water is now only slowly coming out of the drivers side washers and only drippling out of the passenger side?  any ideas?

Thanks for all your help!

The fact they go down, but park higher suggest the motor may be past its best. Reliable enough to get a goodun from a breaker (see parts for sale section ;))

Try unblocking jet with pin.  If its heated, may be scaled up, as supposed to use soft water in those types.  Again, probably easier to replace ;)

If you remove the wiper mechanism you'll find the drive is via a small plate that sits on the taper spline of the wiper motor out put shaft. Stamped into the motor casing you'll find 2 V's (>  < ) and this plate should park between the 2 of them. I think you'll find that the plate has slipped on the taper spline at some time, which is why they don't park correctly.

Nine times out of ten this is caused by a numpty driver putting the wipers on when they are frozen to the xcreen in the winter!!!
motor turns as hard as it can but wipers dont!!
