Lets start with the easy stuff.

1) Any oil in the plug wells?

2) Any ECU light on?

3) Any damaged breather, inlet, vac pipes etc?

no oil in the plug wells all is dry
no ecu lights
no breather/vac pipes off / damaged
this only happens now and then

Ok....

Next thoughts are:

a) EGR sticking open occasionally
b) Plug leads
c) DIS pack

Mine has started to do something similar.

Cold start or if its been parked on abit of a slope it rocks then I blip the accelerator a few times and it seems to clear itself.

My thoughts were the fuel filter possibly gunked up from letting the petrol run into the red before refilling.

Shall have a look at the plugs etc tomorrow just in case its one of these simple issues that have been already mentioned.

Mine also have similiar behaviour..Morning engine starts normal.Idle normal. But when you put in gear and push accelerator it hesitates a few seconds ..After become normal..

Before I changed nearly everything for normal idle (it become obsession > IAC valve, spark plugs, DIS,cables, throttle potentiometer, thermostat, Coolant TS...EGR Blocked-closed Finally idle become normal)  (What is left >  MAF, air temp sensor ,oxygen sensors, fuel pump..)

Tried also normal cleaning procedures for all breathers, even tried carbon clean..No effect..

Now the service tell its MAF..But no EML light..

I think the problem is related to either too much air or inadequate gas flow..

We measured air flow during normal idle (tech 2) (but the engine was hot) air flow was within normal range  (no leakage at that moment)

Now will measure fuel pump at start up.Only this is left

And pump was changed before (20 K miles passed)

prr  - My 2L had this problem a while back.  I noticed the problem more when running on LPG and as it got worse i noticed it while on petrol.  I resolved this by replacing the HT leads, only 30notes from Halfrauds.  :y
